Dear New Lovetteer,
Congratulations on becoming a member of the BEST residential college at Rice! Welcome to Lovett (AKA the Toaster), your home for the next few years. We are Abby Proctor, Bruce Hurley, and Arturo Amarilla (AbBA!), your coordinators for Lovett Orientation Week (O-Week) 2025.
O-Week is the beginning of your journey at Rice. Beyond a week of exploring academics and moving into a new environment, it’s filled with wonderful opportunities to grow, have fun, and make memories that will last a lifetime. You will be introduced to new places, experiences, and resources of all forms that will support you throughout college. This year’s O-Week theme is NabiscO-Week: Chip Happens!! O-Week is just the first level you will complete as a Rice student, and NabiscO-Week will help you prepare for the rest of your journey and conquer bosses along the way, from taking your first Midterm to finding a new support system. All incoming Lovetteers are invited to join our party, and we hope that O-Week will help you put your best foot forward when tackling obstacles, trying new things, and taking advantage of all of Rice’s opportunities.
We have been working nonstop these past eight months to give you the best welcome to the Lovett community and to Rice as a whole, and we can’t wait to share our best tips and tricks for success. This might be the first time that you’ll be away from your family, and you’ll be entering a phase of your life when there’s a lot of changes and independence. This book is a guide to what you can expect during O-Week and contains all you need to know about packing, how to get to Lovett, the people you will meet, and more. We know it can be stressful coming to a new environment and receiving all this information at once, but we are here to set you up for success. Your Advisors, Affiliates, OWL team, and everyone else at Lovett are here to be your biggest supporters. Welcome home, and we can’t wait to see you soon :D

Mission Statement
College is a time of change, knowledge, and new beginnings; but we recognize that CHIP HAPPENS. At Lovett College, we will be here to pick you up when you fall, dust you off, and remind you that you are ALL THAT AND A BAG OF CHIPS. While everyone’s journey to success is different, we strive to help all of you craft your unique, personalized FLAVOR, which embraces their personal spice, texture, and identities. As New Students matriculate through the sallyport, they begin CRUNCH TIME, and they will soon find out that Lovett College was their BATCH MADE IN HEAVEN. NabiscO-Week as well as the broader Lovett community will give them all the resources they KNEAD to succeed and flourish.
We all BITE OFF MORE THAN WE CAN CHEW sometimes, but you’ll find so many people here at Lovett that can help even the bitter moments feel sweet and help you remember that you are a SMART COOKIE. Advisors and peers will be there for every TWIST and CHIP IN THE ROAD on the journey of fuFILLING your dreams. During O-Week, we hope to give you a little TASTE OF LOVETT that will leave you wanting more as you DIP into what Rice has to offer. From matriculation to graduation, we hope to give new Lovetteers all the resources, support, and love possible to show them that our Toaster is FAMILY SIZE.
